Environmental History artifact

NASA

The map shows the deforestation of Mato Grosso an isolated area in the amazon of Brazil. The grey beige regions show the heavy deforestation between 1992 to 2006

  1. This picture is absolutely shocking. The amount of rainforest that is destroyed daily is horrifying. If action is not taken to help reduce deforestation than the world's most biologically diverse areas may soon be a mere memory. The before and after photographs are an excellent reminder of what human habitation is doing to Earth.

  2. This picture is a great reminder that we need to start thinking about the well being of the earth over our own. It is awful to imagine what this same map will look like in five years or even right now. I think that if more now and then photos were publicized people would have a better understanding of what is going on and maybe have more motivation to do something about it.

  3. This picture is definitely an eye-opener to show how much of a problem deforestation is becoming. The artifact I included in my post also deals with deforestation and shows a world map of heavily cleared areas, with Brazil being the most exhausted. The U.S. and parts of Eastern Europe were right behind Brazil -- your map is clear cut, simple, and brings a vital point to attention. Good job!
